🇺🇸 Nov. 26, 1968:
While returning to base, 1st Lt. James P. Fleming and four other Bell UH-1F helicopter pilots from the 20th Special Operations Squadron, get an urgent message from a six man, Army Special Forces team pinned down near a river bank. One helicopter is downed and two others are forced to leave the area, low on fuel. Fleming and another pilot flying in armed Hueys press on with the rescue effort. After their first attempt fails, they head back into the firefight a second time and successfully pick up the team. Nearly out of fuel, Fleming lands back at their base near Duc Co, South Vietnam. Fleming will be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on May 14, 1970. [Aviation History Magazine]
