I recently finished ‘Indianapolis’ by Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic. Everyone knows about the tragic sinking of the USS Indianapolis, it was the worst disaster in US Navy history and it was immortalized in the film ‘Jaws.’ But the authors of this book have told a story that is riveting, exciting, heroic and unbelievably tragic. The attention to detail concerning historical events and Navy protocol is impressive and the writing is second to none. The men who served, survived and died on the ship come to life in a way that I have rarely seen in a history book. The chapters concerning the Japanese submarine that ultimately sunk Indy were especially welcomed. The book reads like a novel. The chapters breeze by and it is hard to put down. It belongs in the library of any student of the Second World War or naval history. It’s a magnificent piece of history. #history #ww2 #usnavy
